On August 3, 1995, Mr. Hakim was honored by a letter from President Clinton, who expressed his appreciation for his letter on Bias Hate Crime: Their Cause and Solution. Mr. Hakim's poem, "Intimate or Distant?" was published in the National Library of Poetry's Mists of Enchantment in April 1996.

Mr. Hakim is a Master of the Peace Community Church International.

Mr. Hakim is a 32^nd degree Mason and on May 13, 2006 Mr. Hakim was installed as President of The Scottish Rite Club of Oakland, Valley of Detroit.. 

Mr. Hakim is also the Chairperson and Founder of "Toward
Establishing a Safer Society, Inc. (TESS)" a nonprofit corporation.
