Words:
Don't Cry for Me, Argentina
It won't be easy, you'll think it strange
When I try to explain how I feel
That I still need your love after all that I've done
You won't believe me
All you will see is a girl you once knew
Although she's dressed up to the nines
At sixes and sevens with you
I had to let it happen, I had to change
Couldn't stay all my life down at heel
Looking out of the window, staying out of the sun
So I chose freedom
Running around, trying everything new
But nothing impressed me at all
I never expected it to
Don't cry for me Argentina
The truth is I never left you
All through my wild days
My mad existence
I kept my promise
Don't keep your distance
And as for fortune, and as for fame
I never invited them in
Though it seems to the world they were all I desired
They are illusions
They're not the solutions they promised to be
The answer was here all the time
I love you and hope you love me
Don't cry for me Argentina
Don't cry for me Argentina
The truth is I never left you
All through my wild days
My mad existence
I kept my promise
Don't keep your distance
Have I said too much?
There's nothing more I can think of to say to you
But all you have to do is look at me
To know that every word is true
Don't cry for me Argentina
Music: Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Lyrics: Tim Rice.
Show: "Evita" (1976/78).
From: The
Andrew Lloyd Webber Collection (1997).
Also on:
Sings the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber (1992).
Meaning of the song:
Eva Peron was the president's wife. Argentina loved her, but she was dying of cancer. She was aware of this factor as was Argentina, hence the "Don't cry me for Argentina." "The truth is I never left you" refers to how she is still with them in spirit.

My message follows, although I do not believe I will die shortly:
Don't Cry for Me, My Loved Ones
I have been of service to you many years,
Writing and singing my songs of love and peace,
Sometimes gay, sometimes sad,
But living my life to the fullest,
The best I could at the moment.
I started off bashful and insecure,
Afraid to open my month lest
I incur the wrath of those I love,
Fearful, yet knowing I had to change.
Much of what I desired
Never came to pass,
But I plodded on and on,
As best I could,
Living one moment at a time.
Now I have passed on
I have continued the quest
Of being of service
And showing my love to one and all.
Share in my joy and happiness
For I have moved on to a higher level
Of peace, joy and love.
Don't cry for me, my loved ones.
